We usually share public speaking tips or communication techniques that you can apply to your relevant settings. This often presupposes that the reader is aware of what public speaking entails. However, in our classes and training programmes, we often encounter questions or discussions on the role of public speaking training as an educational tool.

As creators of public speaking programmes, it may not be a surprise for us to vouch for the value of such training. However, such programmes should not be taken as a guarantee of success! Public speaking is still a fluid concept, and the experience differs from one individual to another. This is why we often start by inviting our learners to appreciate the rationale and methodology of public speaking training.

Today, instead of tips and techniques, let us explore how public speaking training is a practical and fruitful experience for your day-to-day!

 

A Platform to Expand Your Two Feet to the World

At Public Speaking Academy, we believe every learner and communicator has a unique story. Often, people do not take note of us because of our reluctance to speak up, take the stage, and share more about ourselves. While that may not always be the case (as with soft skills), we believe that public speaking or communication skills underlie the key daily interactions, be it at work or home.  The key objective is to ensure that our ideas are communicated clearly and effectively.

We prefer to think of public speaking as an “inescapable” skill. While various skills are equal to or more important than public speaking, it remains one of the core areas one should consider honing or improving. The mentality is not the ‘learn’ or master a new skill. Rather, learners are reminded of the existing habits that they are already applying, elevating these habits into conscious, controllable speaking traits!

 

To Inspire, Lead, and Motivate

A quick scan of leadership or business trends will reveal underlying skill sets that form under the umbrella of public speaking or communication. These are skills that leaders around us use to great effect, having nurtured purposeful control over their communication skills. This is not limited to leaders in formal roles – this may even apply to those looking to showcase leadership potential.

For us, communication skills form a core part of a leader’s identity. A compassionate leader will know how to accurately choose their words and actions to reflect that. Similarly, an inspirational communicator or speaker can combine a suite of body language and vocal variety elements to achieve the inspirational effect. Other ancillary skills such as persuasion, argumentation, or even conflict resolution also draw their roots from public speaking techniques!
