Our Christmas Wish-List! Public Speaking ‘Gifts’ We Hope to Receive!

Of course, 2020 would not be complete without us sharing our Christmas wish-list for this year! As the Public Speaking Academy prepares to wind down for 2020, we thought of sharing the gifts we hope to receive, going into 2021. This year has been challenging, and everyone deserves some cheer as we end 2020 with a bang! For us at the Public Speaking Academy, it continues to be a fulfilling journey in guiding our learners to their communication goals.

Fret not, our wish-list contains no big brand names or expensive presents that would break the bank. Instead, we hope for a confident, kind, and inspirational world for 2021 as more people explore the benefits of focusing on their communication and public speaking skills. Read on to find out more about what we hope to see in our communication journey next year!

Is Public Speaking Really Important?

When 2020 started (before COVID-19), public speaking (as a soft skill) was still slowly gathering interest among our young and adult learners. In fact, most learners started out with the mindset that public speaking was a luxury skill. There was no need to dedicate time, money, or resource in developing these skills as they are not important in their day-to-day settings. Some even felt that public speaking was a skill confined to those who were ‘naturally’ endowed with communication confidence.

As the year stretched on, the dawning realisation that followed was that public speaking was no longer confined to the traditional speaking-on-stage scenario. Instead, the techniques and habits that are covered apply immediately to our day-to-day routine. For example, when COVID-19 forced the sudden transition to an online setting, most learners started to appreciate the value of having a versatile set of public speaking skills to engage their respective audience, no matter the setting. We hope that 2021 will bring a stronger realisation that public speaking and communication skills are and will remain a core skill for one to develop!

Communication Habits Awareness

We believe that a greater awareness of the communication techniques can contribute to a more gracious world moving forward. As we learn to appreciate the weight that our words carry, we will be more sensitive to the impact of what we say and how we say it. This directly correlates with a presentation content-crafting process – we want our learners to know that they have a responsibility to craft a relevant, powerful, and engaging message, no matter their speech/presentation setting.

One related aspect of this is a greater awareness of one’s communication habits. Speaking is no longer a gimmick to be done dramatically. Instead, a communicator who is in tune with using his/her body language techniques purposefully can further their valuable content to the audience. We hope that more learners will appreciate the value of studying their communication habits and charting their respective growth path in their public speaking journey.

Be an Inspiration Beacon!

As the saying goes – with great power, comes greater responsibility! While we are no Spiderman or superhero, having a stronger hold on public speaking/communication skills will also mean that we should think of harnessing the full potential as a communicator. What message would you like to deliver from your respective stage? We know that our learners are confident, robust, and persuasive communicators – we want to know how they will use that power for the world around them.

As you enter 2021, start thinking about the main messages and learning points you want to bring into the new year. Stories are powerful tools – in your hands as a communicator, they can become an inspiration beacon for people around you. This Christmas, take a reflective moment and pick out the inspiration beacons around you from 2020. We look forward to the powerful stories our learners will share this Christmas and in 2021

Wishing Everyone a Joyous Christmas!

Public speaking training is no longer seen as a second thought. With more communicators starting to appreciate the need to focus on their content and delivery skills, we are excited about what this would entail for the world in 2021. As you unwrap your gifts for Christmas this year, take a moment to think about your communication journey and play a part in fulfilling our communication wish-list!
